A Beginner's Guide to Macs

Introduction

So... You got yourself a Mac, eh? Not sure how to make it work? Well, that is just fine. It's pretty easy to pick up, but so much different from what you may be used to that it can be quite intimidating -- even for an experienced computer user. This guide is meant to guide you through the basics of working with a mac and using its interface, teaching you a few tricks along the way as well. This guide also assumes you're using OS X 10.4.8 (the latest update as of this writing), though any version in the 10.4.x family should apply, and in fact, most past and future versions will apply to this writing, though it is written with a 10.4 (Tiger) user in mind.

Layout and Conventions

This Guide is laid out in a page by page format with the following text conventions used:

Commands:
Commands typed in the terminal, X11, OpenFirmware, or any other Command Line will be placed in a box like the following: user% command -f

output of command

I also use a different Skin from the normal OS X interface. Everything is placed in the same spot, colors and styles are mixed up though.
